Moon in the Houses

The Moon in astrology represents the subconscious and one’s relationship with emotions and nurturing. The Moon’s house placement shows where and how we find emotional fulfillment and security, but also where we are most sensitive. Despite desiring stability in the matters of this house, it is also where we experience the most change and inconsistency. The house placement of the Moon can also indicate how you approach emotional expression and intimately relate to others.

Moon in the 1st House

These are individuals who wear their heart on their sleeves and move through life guided by their emotions and intuition. Even when the Moon is in more stoic signs like Virgo or Capricorn, 1H Moons may find their emotions spilling out more often than they’d like. You are generally very gentle and kind, but heightened sensitivity to others and your environment can make you moody and even impulsive at times. Care must be taken to not let everything elicit an emotional response from you.

Moon in the 2nd House

For 2H Moons, you feel most secure when you have your finances in order. Things like financial instability or debt hanging over your head can create a great deal of stress and cause you lash out emotionally. The spending and eating habits of 2H Moons often fluctuate based on their emotional state, with stressful times often causing careless spending or overeating. Emotional matters are viewed through a logical lens, and you prefer showing your love for others through gifts and providing financially. You find it hard to let go of possessions (especially those with sentimental value).

Moon in the 3rd House

Moon in the 3rd house finds comfort through communication and mental stimulation. You can be very emotionally expressive and a soft spoken, considerate communicator. Due to a calming disposition, 3H Moons often deal with people (even strangers) randomly venting or seeking them out for reassurance and a nonjudgmental ear. School may have been a positive experience for you and planted the seed for a lifelong love of learning. Sometimes your emotions can get the best of you, and you may struggle to think objectively. You emotionally recharge through venting, reading, journaling, short trips, or even hanging with your siblings.

Moon in the 4th House

For 4H Moons, family and a happy home are pivotal to your sense of security. Your home is your happy place and you can be very sentimental. 4H Moons often come from homes with nurturing attentive caregivers, with a particular fondness for their mother or other maternal figures. While you feel things deeply, you are very guarded with your emotional expression.

Moon in the 5th House

5H Moons find emotional fulfillment through creative expression. You pour your heart into your hobbies and often turn to creative outlets when going through emotionally trying times. Casual dating and sex can be difficult as you put your heart into every connection and get too emotionally attached for short lived flings. If you have or want children, you will be a very nurturing parent.

Moon in the 6th House

When the Moon is placed in the 6th house, comfort is found through meaningful work, structure, and caring for others. With your emotional state heavily influenced by the work environment, it’s important that your job isn’t stressful and makes you feel that you’re making a difference. 6H Moons must try their best to minimize stress as their emotions can negatively affect their health. Care must also be taken to avoid overextending yourself for others, particularly at work.

Moon in the 7th House

For 7H Moons, emotional fulfillment is found through relationships. You may struggle with codependency and feeling incomplete without a partner. 7H Moons are deeply intuitive lovers. Relationships can be very unpredictable and emotionally charged, with you (or your partner) being moody or having a lot of on and off relationships. 7H Moons are deeply attuned to their partners needs, wanting to intercept any issues that can jeopardize their relationship.

Moon in the 8th House

8H Moons are highly intuitive (possibly having psychic abilities) and strong emotions that they tend to keep hidden. Intimacy and bonding are important for your emotional security. You are highly attuned to your partner and their needs, especially in bed. While you are very loyal, you can also be jealous and possessive of your partner.

Moon in the 9th House

Emotional fulfillment is found through experiencing new things. You love learning and expanding your mind, but tend to keep the values and philosophies you were raised with. 9H Moons deeply value their freedom and will become agitated when they feel bored, trapped, or if their philosophies are challenged.

Moon in the 10th House

For 10H Moons, comfort is found through success: you want to have a great career, glowing reputation, and you want to make a difference in the world. You are known and will be remembered for your kindness, sensitivity, and how you treat others. You are very likely to change careers a few times and prefer careers that are fulfilling and allow you to care for others. You are very careful with your emotional expression, preferring to keep your feelings under wraps.

Moon in the 11th House

When the Moon is placed in the 11th house, having friends and being part of a community are important for your emotional well-being. You may be the “mom” friend, providing advice or a shoulder to cry on, or you seek friends you can be vulnerable with. Friends are more like family and 11H Moons may even be closer to their friends (or even strangers online) than their actual family. Friendship is important to 11H Moons, but friendships often come and go.

Moon in the 12th House

For 12H Moons, emotional expression does not come easy: years of shame for your sensitivity cause you to hide and ignore your emotions. You are extremely intuitive, considerate, and find emotional satisfaction through helping others. 12H Moons need plenty of alone time to recharge, decompress, and work through their emotions.
